Wind Symphony

About the Course

Wind Symphony is the advanced-level large ensemble in the Horizon High School band program, designed for wind and percussion musicians with extensive performance experience and strong technical proficiency. This auditioned ensemble offers the highest level of challenge and artistic expectation within the band curriculum.

Wind Symphony is a ¾ credit course that begins in 2nd quarter as a single-period class. Students selected for Wind Symphony are expected to also participate in Marching Band during 1st quarter, unless extenuating circumstances apply and prior consent is granted by the directors. Repertoire focuses on advanced-level literature drawn from a wide range of historical and contemporary style periods.

Members are required to participate in all scheduled concerts and festivals, many of which occur outside the regular school day. Through regular evaluations, students refine advanced musicianship, ensemble leadership, and performance excellence, while continuing to grow artistically and technically at the highest level of the program.
