Concert Band

About the Course

Concert Band is the entry-level large ensemble within the Horizon High School band program, designed to welcome students with at least one year of prior ensemble experience. This open, non-auditioned ensemble helps musicians build strong fundamentals on brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments while exploring a wide range of band literature.

Throughout the year, students study music from multiple style periods, with repertoire ranging from easy to intermediate levels. Concert Band is a yearlong, 1-credit course, made up primarily of students who are not in marching band. Members perform in all scheduled concerts and festivals and are regularly assessed to support continued musical growth.

Concert Band provides a supportive, skill-building environment where students develop technique, musicianship, and confidence, with opportunities for advancement into higher-level ensembles as they progress. This course is open to 9th-12th grade students. This course is also open to current symphonic band or wind symphony students who would like to double or learn a new instrument.
