About the Course
Symphonic Band is the intermediate-level ensemble and the largest of the large ensembles in the Horizon High School band program. This auditioned ensemble is designed for students ready to take the next step in musical challenge, commitment, and ensemble performance.
Symphonic Band is a ¾ credit course that begins in 2nd quarter as a single-period class. Students enrolled in Symphonic Band are expected to also participate in Marching Band during 1st quarter, unless extenuating circumstances apply and prior consent is granted by the directors. Throughout the course, students study band literature from a wide range of style periods, with repertoire spanning intermediate to advanced levels.
Members are required to participate in all scheduled concerts and festivals, which often take place outside the regular school day. Regular evaluations help support individual growth and ensemble excellence, while also providing opportunities for advancement into higher-level ensembles. Symphonic Band emphasizes strong musicianship, refined technique, and collaborative performance in a rigorous and rewarding ensemble setting.
