HHSBPA Update

Weekly Update August 30th

Good evening band families!

This email contains a lot of information, please read it all the way to the end.

Snack & Water Donations

We need more snacks and water. We feed the students a snack at all football games and some of the competitions. We also take water to every event we go to in order to keep the students hydrated. We are looking for individually wrapped snacks like goldfish, granola bars, fruit snacks, etc. If you would like to donate either snacks or water, you can bring them to the school on Friday between 3pm – 4pm.

Football Concessions

The band parents will be staffing the concession stands at the football game on Friday September 4th. This is an easy way for us to earn some extra money for the band. We need to staff both the home and guest concession stands and are looking for 9 volunteers. We need to be there early (as close to 5:30pm as possible) to get set-up. We will run the stands until the middle of the fourth quarter. If you would like to help us out, please sign up here:

Pit Crew

We also need help with our pit crew for Friday night’s game. The pit crew/Hawk Haulers, help the students take out all the equipment needed for the show. If you would like to help with pit crew, please sign up here:

Buttons

All band members will have their photo taken on Friday before they leave for the football game. These photos will be used to create the buttons, we are hoping to have the buttons finished and ready to hand out at the Showcase on Saturday September 12th. Please use the above Zeffy link to purchase your buttons.

Senior Banners

Senior banners are set to be finished on Thursday. We will hang them up at the stadium before the game on Friday. Parents are responsible for taking them down and bringing them to all other games and the Showcase.

The Showcase

This year’s Showcase event will be held on Saturday September 12th at Horizon High School. It will begin at 2pm with our tailgate. This year you may purchase a Chick-Fi-La sandwich, chips, cookie and drink for $8. If your student would like a meal, please be sure to purchase one for them. This is a fun time to hang out with other band parents, play yard games and socialize before we head into the stadium to watch the show. This event is held one week before the student’s first marching competition. It is great for them to perform in front of an audience! We do charge $5 to get into the show (kids 12 and under are free). Please use the Zeffy link to purchase tickets. All meal tickets must be purchased in advance by Wednesday September 9th by 8pm. We will only order the number of sandwiches purchased and will not have extra.

Show run through and reminders: (Please read all!)

Here are the show run through videos from Saturday! Take a look at the overhead drone view as a reference for drill spots, side to side spacing, and point accuracy. Look at the video from the box (director tower) perspective to look at the finer details of the music, feet timing, body shape in visuals, and marching technique overall.

Be proud of all of our progress last week, and let's stay focused and maintain a driving energy to improve, clean, and be ready for our first football game on Friday!

Electrify Apparel and Attendance Reminders

Our Electrify show apparel fundraiser is now open! T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and hoodies are available. Wear yours at competitions and performances to show your support for the Marching Hawks!

Order here:
https://www.customink.com/fundraising/horizon-band-electrify-show-apparel?utm_campaign=desktop-post-launch-v3&utm_content=horizon-band-electrify-show-apparel&utm_medium=social&utm_source=copy-link

A reminder that Saturday practices, Monday evening rehearsals, and performances are all required, summative-graded events. We have had several recent absences without communication, and missing students affect everyone who relies on them on the field.

We understand that illnesses, emergencies, sports, and unavoidable conflicts happen. However, work and other avoidable events are not considered excused absences. If a student must miss, a parent must email the directors with the reason for the absence, and the student must complete a makeup assignment to recover the points.

Please continue checking the full calendar when making plans:
https://horizonhawks.band/calendar/

Thank you to the families who have communicated with us in advance! It helps us prepare and keeps the entire band moving forward. Every student has an important role in our success, let’s have a great season!

Director Update

Director Update August 28th

Hello Marching Hawks families,

We have a few important updates as we continue preparing for a great season!

First, our  Electrify show apparel fundraiser is now open! Families and supporters can purchase a T-shirt, long-sleeve shirt, or hoodie featuring this year’s show design. We would love to see our families wearing these at competitions and performances while showing their support for the Marching Hawks!

Order here:
https://www.customink.com/fundraising/horizon-band-electrify-show-apparel?utm_campaign=desktop-post-launch-v3&utm_content=horizon-band-electrify-show-apparel&utm_medium=social&utm_source=copy-link

I also need to share an important reminder about attendance. Our Saturday practices, Monday 3:30-5:00 music rehearsals, and performances are all required, summative-graded events. We have recently had a number of students miss rehearsals without communicating with the directors or their section leaders, and those absences are beginning to affect the entire group.

Marching band is incredibly dependent on every person being present. When someone is missing from the field, other students lose the people and reference points they rely on, and it makes the rehearsal process more difficult for both students and staff.

We completely understand that emergencies, illnesses, family situations, sports, and other unavoidable conflicts happen. However, work and other avoidable conflicts are not considered excused absences from required rehearsals or performances. If a student must miss, a parent needs to email the directors with the reason for the absence. Students must also complete a makeup assignment to recover the missed summative points.

Please continue to reference our calendar when scheduling appointments, work, and other activities:
https://horizonhawks.band/calendar/

Thank you to the many families who have already communicated with us about unavoidable conflicts! That advance notice makes a huge difference and allows our staff and students to prepare for rehearsing without that student.

We have a great group with an exciting season ahead of us, and every student plays an important role in our success. Thank you for helping us keep everyone present, prepared, and moving forward together!

Go Hawks!

Update August 26th

Good evening band families,

We need some help with chaperones and Hawk Haulers.

Chaperones

Chaperones are needed for every band event that we leave the school. Parents who chaperone ride the bus and stay with the students for the event. They are needed to help make sure the students are where they are supposed to be and help them if they need anything. Parents who sign up to chaperone need to stop by the front office of the school during school hours and have them scan your driver’s license.

If you would like to chaperone, please sign up here:

HHSBPA Update

Update to Weekly Update? August 18th

There were a couple of things we forgot to mention in the message we sent out on Sunday.

Tomorrow we are having a restaurant fundraising night at Freddy’s located at 14255 Lincoln St. Thornton from 4-8pm. You can order on-line using the code ‘GIVEBACK’ or in person and mention Horizon band 20% of the night’s earnings will go towards the band. This is a fun and easy way for us to earn some money for the band. Tell your family and friends to eat at Freddy’s tomorrow!

Friday night is our parent’s night out. Come join us at Prost Brewing on 104th & I-25 at 6pm. You can meet and mingle with other band families and meet new people. If you are new to the band program, this is a great way for you to chat with more seasoned parents about how the marching band season works and how parents can get involved. We would love to see a large turnout so we can get to know one another better, it takes a village to support a band program, so let’s get the village together for a little fun!

If you have ordered shopping bags or swag bags from the Zeffy merch shop and have not picked them up yet, Ashly will be at the school at the end of next Monday evenings rehearsal. You can stop by and pick up what you purchased.

If you are purchasing buttons, please make sure you (or any family members who are ordering) put the name of the student in the order so we know how many buttons of that student we should make.

The last day to order buttons, hats, or yard signs is going to be Thursday September 4th. This will allow time for those items to be ordered and made.

Have a great week!
