HHSBPA Update

Weekly Update September 22nd

Good evening band families!

The marching hawks did a fantastic job this weekend, both at the parade and in their first competition! They took 5th place at the Monarch Festival with a score of 68.8. If you are new to the marching band world, bands are scored in several different categories. They receive judges tapes for each category that they can use to help improve for the next competition. To track how Horizon and other bands do throughout the season, you can go to the Colorado Bandmasters Association Marching website: CBA marching.

This week’s schedule:

  • Monday: Marching rehearsal 5:30-9pm
  • Thursday: Percussion rehearsal 5:30-7:30pm & Guard rehearsal 6-9pm
  • Friday: Football game call time 5pm
  • Saturday: Legacy Festival call time 8am, 11:45am performance time

Friday Night Football game

If you have a senior who got a banner, please plan on hanging your student’s banner (or talk with someone that can do it for you) at the same location as last week. Please make sure that you have zip ties or clips to hand them on the chain link fence. You also will be responsible for removing it at the end of the game.

Legacy Festival

Legacy Festival is held at the Adams 12 5 Star Stadium off of Washington. It has prelims and finals – you will be required to purchase a ticket for both prelims AND finals. Horizon’s prelims performance is at 11:45. We will not know if Horizon made finals or what time they would perform in the finals until the prelims awards ceremony at 4:45pm. Finals will begin at 5:45pm and the finals award ceremony is at 9:30pm, so this will be a long day. We will feed the kids a potato bar for lunch, and if they make finals, we will feed them Chick Fil A for dinner. We will food donations and help with feeding the students, if you are able to help out, please sign up on the Meal Train: Legacy Meal Train

For more information about the Legacy Festival, including ticket information and parking, please visit: Legacy Festival Info

We could use a couple more people for our pit crew and chaperones, if you would like to help with that, please sign up here: Pit Crew Sign Up & Chaperone Sign Up

Jackpot Merch

We will be selling Jackpot merch (green poker visor, cards glasses, beaded necklace) at Monday night’s rehearsal for $10. We will be in the school stadium where the band rehearses from 8:20-8:50pm, we would then love to encourage you to watch the end of rehearsal, the band always does a complete run through of the show and they would like an audience. We only have 17 left, but have ordered more, we will also sell them Saturday morning at the drop off right in front of the auditorium.

In N Out Fundraiser

On Saturday October 12, the band will host their annual Showcase fundraiser. This fundraiser has 2 parts:

First, we will have the In N Out food truck come to Horizon for the “tailgate” portion of the night. Starting at 4pm they will serve a meal that includes a hamburger, potato chips and a drink. You MUST purchase a ticket for a meal (if your student wants a meal, they also need to purchase a ticket). Each ticket costs $5 ($5.25 if using Venmo or Paypal). For each ticket that your student sells, $3.75 will go into their student account. We are asking that you use the google form below to pre-purchase tickets. You can start picking up your tickets at Monday night rehearsals from 8:20-8:50pm, you can pay for and pick up your tickets. You must hold onto your tickets until the event, we cannot replace lost tickets.

The second part is the band performance. Once everyone has been fed, the band will perform their field show at 6:30pm. There is a $5 entrance fee to watch the band perform. This money will go into our general fund, money will be taken the day of at the gate.

There’s a lot going on this fall, please encourage your student to get their homework done early, hydrate, and get plenty of rest when they can. It’s a busy season, but will be 100% worth it! Please let us know if you have any questions and thank you for your continued support!
