4th Movement Pass-Offs This Week

Hey everyone,

As you know, this week we are doing 4th Movement pass-offs. These are graded as pass/fail, but the good news is you g et as many attempts as you need. The purpose isnโ€™t to make anyone nervous, itโ€™s to encourage you to practice and commit to the show at home so we can all feel confident heading into our first competition.

Think about it this way:
-Youโ€™ve all walked into a test knowing the material cold, ready to nail it.
-Youโ€™ve also walked into a test knowing you werenโ€™t prepared.

How did each of those moments feel? What was the result? Letโ€™s set ourselves up for the first competition with that first feeling: confidence, pride, and the excitement of showing off what we know we can do. Individual confidence builds ensemble confidence, and ensemble confidence builds excellence.

Practice Tips
-Break it down: Donโ€™t just play from start to finish. Target the measures, transitions, and rhythms that give you the most trouble.
-Repetition with intention: Play a tricky spot slowly until it feels comfortable, then gradually speed it up.
-Chunk your practice: Work in short, focused segments rather than long, unfocused runs.
-Memorization hacks: Say rhythms out loud, sing or finger through your part away from your instrument, and test yourself without looking at the music.
-Record yourself: Listening back is one of the fastest ways to spot what still needs attention.
-Consistency: Even 15โ€“20 minutes a day of focused practice will do more for you than cramming right before pass-offs.

Letโ€™s show up at our first competition feeling strong, confident, and proud of the product weโ€™ve built together!

– Mr. Dailey
