Hey all!
Don't forget we have rehearsal tonight at 4:00 pm! We will be on the turf field, and need to be wearing white shirts as the news crew is here today and will arrive around 5:00 pm. Logos or different types of shirts are totally fine, we're just looking to have some uniformity to how we look on the field. We will be done by 7:00 pm.
Please try to be early! There is a lot that needs to be moved from the band room (and cleaned up from camp) that we will need help with to get things kicked off on time.
See you tonight! #marching_hawks

Band camp is over and the marching season has officially started! The students did such a great job last week, it was great to see their first movement on the field at the Show N’ Tell last week.
This week, the students have rehearsal on Tuesday from 4-7pm. Please remind them to wear a white shirt. 9 News will be there and doing a spotlight piece, it will look really nice to have all the students in white shirts.
We have our first restaurant night this Wednesday at Freddy’s from 4-8pm, see the post below. Make sure to mention that you are with Horizon Band and we will receive 15% of sales. Pass it along to friends, family, co workers, and share it on your social media so we can get a large turn out.
On Saturday August 17th we will have our annual Mile of Money fundraiser at the King Soopers on 136th and Colorado. The students will perform while parents collect donations. We will need a couple volunteers to help collect donations, you can sign up here if you would like to help:
Along with the performance and money collection at King Soopers, we will run an online Mile of Money through Snap Raise. Your students will be asked to provide email addresses of friends/family and Snap Raise will send out an invite to support the band. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, we usually collect around $20,000 each year for our general fund, which is amazing! Please help support your student in providing email addresses. This will be kicked off once school begins. Mr. Dailey will go over this in band class, we just wanted to give a heads up that it is coming.
We are also asking for snack donations for performances. If you are able to donate individually wrapped snacks or water, please drop it off at Mr. Dailey’s office on Tuesday after rehearsal.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Hey Band Families!
Head out to Freddy’s on Wednesday August 7th anytime between 4-8pm, mention you are with the band, and we will receive 15% of sales.
Tell your family and friends!
Show and tell run through!

Good morning marching hawks!!!! 🦅
Y’all had a very successful band camp this week and the staff and I am extremely proud of y’all! Keep up the good work! I am attaching our body movement routine below for y’all to watch. Also, I will be posting our run through as well. As a performer I found it extremely helpful to watch videos of either marching, body movements, choreography, run throughs etc. Sometimes you can’t always feel the correction but watching yourself or your band mates can help understand what you might need to focus on or correct within yourself. Dancers always have a mirror in front of them to always be correcting how they are suppose to look, unfortunately we don’t have a mirror. So as your instructor I will make sure y’all get videos through out the season so you can keep track of your progress as well as be more individually accountable. There are only a few staff and 100 something of you, if y’all can always be trying to correct something within yourself, this band will be able to do some amazing things this season! Keep up the good work y’all!

Good evening band families!
Just a quick reminder about a couple of things.
King Soopers rewards screen shot is due by Thursday, just send it to this email and we will apply it to your student’s account.
Show N’ Tell is Friday at 6pm. We will have a quick band parent meeting, the students will show us what they have been working on, and we will serve a hot dog dinner. If you want to purchase a dinner, please sign up here:
If you would like to pay via Venmo, you can do that in advance, just make a note that it is for the Hot Dog dinner.
Lastly, we need to fill our snack closet with water and snacks. We provide water and snacks to the students at performances and need to replenish our supply. We are looking for bottles of water and individually wrapped snacks like fruit snacks, granola bars, individual size popcorn, etc. If you would like to donate, you may bring them Friday or to any of the after school rehearsals.
Band Camp is here, and it is going to be HOT!
Please send your student with water, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, closed toe shoes, and all the things needed for their instrument/ guard equipment. The temperatures will be near 100°F all week, so I would recommend some Gatorade or an electrolyte replacement drink as well.
Band camp will be from Monday – Friday from 8-5. Friday we have our Show N’ Tell at 6pm where the students will show us what they were up to all week. The Band Parent Association will be selling a hot dog dinner for $5, we will feed the band students for free, but if you and your family would like a quick easy dinner, sign up on this Google form by Wednesday for your hot dog dinner.
We have a couple more spots for our fruit and popsicle breaks AND with uniform fitting. If you can help, please sign up here:
We will also be working on props this week, we have a message from our pit master, Paul:
“Paul Jaminet is looking for all comers to get into prop building afternoons during band camp, 1-4pm each day. Any and all skills and experiences are helpful! Paul can be reached at 303-324-4868 if you have questions!”
Thanks! Paul”
Lastly, we have been invited by Fun Services to volunteer for the Pipefitters of Denver’s annual company picnic. They have 10 volunteer slots available, you must be 15 years old and will make minimum wage that will be placed into your student’s account. The event is Saturday August 24th from 10:30-2:30pm. You can sign up here: Pipefitters Event
As always, the website has a ton of information, including how to make payments. If you still have questions, please email us and we will get back with you as soon possible. We look forward to seeing you all on Friday!
Marching Hawks!
It’s finally time for band camp! I’m so excited to get things rolling, please take the time to read through this message so everyone is on the same page for the week! Students, please react to this message so I know you’ve read through and understand the expectations for band camp!
Bring your instrument, a music lyre, closed toe shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle. Get plenty of rest through the week, stay hydrated, and they eat a good breakfast. You should be drinking plenty of water during the evening/night to stay hydrated throughout each day!
The schedule is 8 am-5pm every day with an hour from 12-1pm for lunch. Please arrive by 7:45 am to help set up and get ready so we can start right at 8 am. We will be outside in the morning block, inside in the afternoon. As we get through the week, we will spent more time outside in the afternoon putting music to the drill so make sure to stay hydrated day to day, drink lots of water before Monday and every night, and get a lot of rest to combat the hot days! We have 28 sets of drill to get through this camp, so we will need all of the time we can get on the field.
We will be doing themes for each day, picked out by the leadership team! It’s always more fun when everyone participates in the themes, even if it’s just a colored shirt or fun accessory, and it’s a great way to keep energy levels high for the week!
Monday – America Day
Tuesday – 80’s Day
Wednesday – Costume/cosplay Day
Thursday – Beach Day
Friday – Section Spirit Day (talk to your section leaders for more info)
We will have a fruit break to refuel at 10 am as well as a popsicle break to cool off at 3 pm everyday. Thanks in advanced to everyone bringing those items for the band! You can drop off fruit at the marching field in the morning, and popsicles will be in the theater lobby in the afternoon, if you need to keep things frozen, let a staff member know and we can put those in the staff lounge freezer.
Show and tell on Friday at 6 pm! We will do a short presentation and then show off and perform what we learned throughout the week! This is a change from last year so more families are able to easily make it to the event.
After camp is over, we have a rehearsal August 6th from 4-7 pm where 9News is coming out for their story. We ask that everyone wears a white shirt for this rehearsal. Please make this rehearsal a priority, we won’t see the band again until school starts the following week.
Parents, if you haven’t been getting our emails this summer, make sure you are checking your email from [email protected]. If you are not on our mailing list yet, please email them with your preferred emails, student’s name, grade, and instrument.
Talk a look at the calendar in the “events” tab on the band app, or get more information at HorizonHawks.Band
DRILL: I want to give a preview for what we will be working on this week with our drill video! Students, take a look and get excited, one of the members on the field is YOU! We will start learning the drill on Tuesday and you’ll then find out where your dot is. It’s up to us to bring this drill and music to life, this is just our placement and some filler visuals, but we will add our own choreography and movement to this throughout the week!
There are some awkward silent spots where the sound effects are supposed to be but the music does have all of our written in changes which is why it sounds a bit different.
Lastly, this video is confidential for viewing only and is subject to change, so please do not share this.
See you all on Monday, Go Hawks!
