Weekly Update August 4th

Band camp is over and the marching season has officially started! The students did such a great job last week, it was great to see their first movement on the field at the Show N’ Tell last week.

This week, the students have rehearsal on Tuesday from 4-7pm. Please remind them to wear a white shirt. 9 News will be there and doing a spotlight piece, it will look really nice to have all the students in white shirts.

We have our first restaurant night this Wednesday at Freddy’s from 4-8pm, see the post below. Make sure to mention that you are with Horizon Band and we will receive 15% of sales. Pass it along to friends, family, co workers, and share it on your social media so we can get a large turn out.

On Saturday August 17th we will have our annual Mile of Money fundraiser at the King Soopers on 136th and Colorado. The students will perform while parents collect donations. We will need a couple volunteers to help collect donations, you can sign up here if you would like to help:

Mile of Money

Along with the performance and money collection at King Soopers, we will run an online Mile of Money through Snap Raise. Your students will be asked to provide email addresses of friends/family and Snap Raise will send out an invite to support the band. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, we usually collect around $20,000 each year for our general fund, which is amazing! Please help support your student in providing email addresses. This will be kicked off once school begins. Mr. Dailey will go over this in band class, we just wanted to give a heads up that it is coming.

We are also asking for snack donations for performances. If you are able to donate individually wrapped snacks or water, please drop it off at Mr. Dailey’s office on Tuesday after rehearsal.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Good evening Band Families! We hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

Check the calendar!

We have a couple weeks left before band camp begins! Band camp is Monday July 29th – Friday August 2nd from 8 – 5 each day (more details will be sent out soon). We would like to provide a morning fruit break and an afternoon popsicle break for the students. If you are able to provide fruit, popsicles, or are able to help set up, serve the students, and clean up, please use this link to sign up: Band Camp Snacks

We are also going to be fitting the students in their uniforms and will need parents’ help to get all the kids fit. You do not need any sewing experience, our uniform chair, Anna, will show you everything you need to do. If you are able to help out with uniforms, please sign up here: Uniform Sign Up

Friday August 2nd from 6 – 7:30 pm, we will be having a band parent meeting, and the student’s Show N’ Tell, where you will get to see what your student learned at band camp. You will be able to purchase a hot dog dinner (more details to follow). Please plan on attending both the meeting and the Show N’ Tell.

Lastly, the King Soopers community rewards are in for the quarter. If you are signed up for the King Soopers community rewards, please go to your profile and take a snapshot of this quarter’s earnings and email it to our email ([email protected]) by August 1st.

Weekly Update June 16th

Good morning band families, and Happy Father’s Day to all our band dads!

Remember to check the calendar!

This week the students have their mini camp. This is a big week for the students to learn marching technique and begin to work on the show, so please don’t miss it! It looks like the weather will be slightly cooler, but please still plan on your student being out in the sun. They need water, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, closed toe shoes, their instrument, music and a lunch. The band parents will provide a morning fruit break and an afternoon Popsicle break. Thank you to all those who signed up to help with that, there are just a couple slots left, if you are able to help, sign up here: Fruit/Popsicle sign up.

We will be having our annual car wash on Saturday June 29 at North Metro Church. Your student should have signed up for a time slot to work and have been given tickets to sell. Your student can sell the tickets for $10 a piece, these funds will be put into your students account and can be used for their first band payment. We will need parents to help out with the car wash, if you are able (we especially need some power washers to borrow) please sign up here: Car Wash sign up

The first payment is due on June 20th. To make a payment, go to the payment section and enter the password sent via email. If your student is a returning member, you will be able to check their account by using their school student ID. If they are new, their account will not show yet, however, you can still make a payment, just make sure that you include their first and last name in the notes section. We are charged a credit card fee when using Venmo or PayPal, so please add 2% or $2 to your $100 payment to help cover that fee and meet your student’s fee commitment.

Please make sure that you and your student have filled out the commitment letter sent via email and return it into Mr. Dailey. This will ensure that your student will have a part written in the show.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at [email protected].

Weekly Update June 9th

Good evening band families!

This week the students have rehearsal from 9-1pm on Tuesday. If your student is in guard or percussion, please see the calendar for a full list of rehearsal times.

You hopefully received two sign up genius invites, one for fruit and popsicle breaks for mini camp next week, and another for the car wash. If you did NOT receive them, please send us an email and we will check to ensure you are on the distribution list. If you are able to help out with providing the student’s their fruit break or popsicle break next week, please sign up! The students look forward to these breaks and we help fuel their rehearsal. Also, we need parent help for the upcoming car wash, if you have supplies or are able to help work the car wash, please sign up. If you did not receive the sign up invites, you can access them here: Fruit/Popsicles and Car Wash.

We are also going to start building the props for the show! Here is a note from our Pit Crew/Prop Master Paul:

If you are interested in helping out with Props, I will be at the fieldhouse Tuesday June 11th from 11am-1pm, and then again during mini-camp June 18-19 from 1pm-4pm.  I am looking for folks to help organize the Fieldhouse and brainstorm the GIANT casino props Mr Dailey is looking for!  Any and all are welcome!

Additionally, looking ahead to the Fall event schedule, if you have a CDL and would have some flexibility to help drive the semi+trailer, please let Jess know and she will connect you to Paul for further info.

Paul

Our pit crew and prop builders have a lot of fun building the props that add visual interest to the marching show. If you are able to help out, head on over to the field house at the school.

Thank you all so much for your willingness to help and invest in our students. I have always said that it takes a village to run a marching band! If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot us an email.

Weekly Update

Cleaning Day 2024 on June 1

We will be making some changes to our organizational structure to the band room, field house, and storage rooms at HHS on JUNE 1st from 9am-1pm!

We could use help organizing, moving equipment, and getting rid of old props and unused odds and ends. This will be a great time to meet some of the other parents, start to get involved, and get things set up to build props and what we need for this marching season.

This will make a huge difference in getting this year started off in the right direction and making sure the band room and our stage space is as functional and effective as possible.

Just show up and jump in. Family, friends, students… all are welcome. Thanks in advance!
