Good evening band families!

We would like to congratulate the Horizon Wind Ensemble, Mr. Dailey, and Mr. Duran for their fantastic performance at CMEA. The music they performed was extremely difficult and required every member to work hard to achieve the quality performance that they reached.

If your student participated in the Little Caesar’s fundraiser, the products will be delivered on Tuesday. Your student will need to pick up their order after school on Tuesday. The orders need to stay refrigerated so please make sure the order is picked up.

Weekly Update January 12th

The first basketball pep band game is this Friday. Please check in with your student on which games they will be attending. The students were asked to complete a form to chose which games they would play at. Playing at the basketball games are a part of the lettering requirement, as are attending other concerts that they are not playing in, so if your student is wanting to letter in band, they will need to attend these events!

Our January Restaurant Night is this Wednesday at Panda Express at the Orchard from 10am-9pm. Mention you are will the band and we will get a cut of the proceeds. Here’s a link to all the information and the flyer: Panda Express night

This Saturday, our Winter Color Guard will be hosting a Friends and Family Show. The doors open at 5pm. Tickets are $10, kids 12 and under are free. This is a fantastic opportunity to come watch and support our winter guard. There will be other high school color guards performing too, with Anesidora closing the show.

The Little Caesars fundraiser continues through this week, ALL ORDERS MUST BE TURNED IN BY FRIDAY 01/17. Delivery and pick up of the pizza kits will occur the week of February 3, we will let you know the exact date when Little Caesars gives that to us.

We are beginning to look for corporate sponsors for our bands. We would love to have multiple sponsors to help fund our bands. If your company would like to sponsor the band, or you would be willing to help get our sponsor letter out to companies, please let us know. We currently are in need of a sponsor for some last minute needs for our trip to Ireland, we will be happy to put companies logo on our trip shirt for donations. Please let us know ASAP if you know of a company who would like to help us out.

Lastly, if you student will be continuing with the Horizon band program, I am going to ask you to consider joining our board. We have a couple positions opening up this year and a few that we are adding:

  • Chaperone Chair: Helps organize chaperones for all outings such as football games, competitions and festivals. Making sure chaperone bags are stocked.
  • Food Chair: Helps organize food for marching competitions and concert festivals as needed
  • Concessions Chair: Will organize food and will help staff concessions sold at concerts
  • Social Media Person: Will take pictures and maintain social media pages

Members of our board meet (generally) the first Tuesday of every month at 6pm. We do a fantastic job of collaborating and helping each other, so please do not feel you will be on your own to figure things out. It takes a village to support a band program, so we need people to come fill the spots of those parents whose students are graduating. If you are interested in a position, or have questions, please fell free to reach out.

Have a great week!

Little Caesar’s Fundraiser

Hi everyone,

Here is some information from our fundraiser chair, Melissa, about the Little Caesar’s Fundraiser that is kicking off tomorrow, including the flyer with information on how to sell attached to the email.

We will be kicking off our Little Caesar’s pizza kit fundraiser as the students return to school on Tuesday! Attached is a letter with fundraiser dates and directions on how to place online orders. Order forms will be available to students on Wednesday, in the band room.

Forms and money collected will need to be turned in to the lock box in the band room by the end of school on Friday, January 17th. Delivery will be the week of February 3rd; the exact pick up date will be sent out after January 20th.

**Note that orders will be delivered to us before the Super Bowl. Use that as a selling point!**

Money raised will be split between individual student accounts and the band general fund. Each kit/code sold will earn $4.20 for the student’s account, with $1.80 going to the general fund.

Thanks everyone!

Weekly Update November 10th

Good evening band families!

We hope everyone has recovered from the busy and very amazing marching season and are excited about concert season!

Fees

As we move away from marching season, I would like to remind everyone to please pay their band fees. We currently have 48 students who are not fully paid. Please pay any outstanding balance as the band fees are vital to keeping the band programs running and being able to provide excellent instruction and experiences for our students. Please keep in mind, if your student is planning on participating in winter color guard or winter percussion, they will NOT be able to participate until their band fee is paid. On top of that, fees will be approximately $650 for both winter percussion and guard this year, plus the cost of the uniform. We are looking at needing those fees paid in full (tentatively) by March 1st. This cost is based on having a certain number of students join and may change if that number is not met.

Marching Band Banquet

The marching band banquet is going to be this Thursday at 6pm. We will be having a dessert bar. Each section will be assigned a dessert to bring and share. This year, we will be hosting a silent auction at the banquet. Here is a quick note about what to expect:

Want to own a piece of our Jackpot show?  At this weeks’ Celebration, we are going to be selling our Show Props!  Everything will be up for sale – Poker Chips, Dice, Vinyl Banners, Decals & Stickers – even the Slot Machine!  Format will be a silent auction with a minimum bid (so that we can recoup some of the cost of materials) – think about what you might want to take home to remember our fantastic season!

Private Lessons

If your student is interested in taking private lessons, we now have a list of private lesson instructors. Private lessons could be a great gift to your student this holiday season!

Jazz Festival

Just a quick reminder that Horizon’s Jazz Festival is this Wednesday and Thursday. Horizon’s three jazz bands will play on Wednesday. Parents are welcome to attend this free event.

Ireland Updates

Check out the Travel page for updates on our Ireland trip!

We hope you all have a wonderful week. Please email us with any questions!

In your email, we have attached several documents about the state competition so you can be prepared if you attend the competition. Please remember that it is at the Air Force Academy, so you will have to go through a safety checkpoint in order to go onto the base. They CAN search your vehicle and you need to have your driver’s license ready. There is often a line for this process, please plan accordingly so you do not miss the performance.

To follow along with scores, and other information about state, visit the Colorado Marching website: https://www.coloradomarching.org/

The Monarch Patches are in! Your student can pick them up from Mr. Dailey this week.

If you are new to marching band here is a quick rundown on how the state competitions work. This week the regional competitions are held around the state. The last regional in which 5A bands will perform occurs on Thursday, so by Friday morning, we will know the standings for the state competition. IF Horizon places in the top 6 for 5A bands, they will SKIP quarter finals which take place on the morning of Friday October 25th and go directly to semi finals which is held on the morning of Saturday October 26th. Finals are held in the evening of Saturday October 26th. Quarter finals, semi finals and finals are all held at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. If you would like to follow the scores this week, and see the placement for quarter finals, check the CBA marching website: https://www.coloradomarching.org/

We want to thank all the families who donated for the Hawk the Lawn, we were able to raise all the money needed for the signs. Our lovely Vice President, Danielle, is coordinating the Hawk the Lawn, and would like to organize a proper send off for our students, here is a message from her:

As we gear up for state, we would like to go ahead and put a small ask on your calendar. Last year on the morning of state (Saturday only-Oct. 26), parents/families surprised the kids by making a tunnel for them to walk through as they headed to the buses. We would like to do that again this year, as well! We aren’t sure of the time quite yet, but even it’s 4 a.m., our kiddos deserve it! Please stay tuned for a time in our state communication email. Go Hawks!

This week’s schedule:
Monday: 9-1pm rehearsal
1-4pm load trailer and break for dinner
4pm call time
8pm performance time
10pm ish arrive at HHS

Friday: 9-1pm rehearsal
5-10 ish football game

Thank you all for coming out to the In N Out Showcase fundraiser! It was a wonderful afternoon and the band’s performance was awesome!

I hope you all have a great week, if you have any questions, please feel free to email us.
