Weekly Update August 10th

Good evening band families!

Thank you to all who came out to the Show N’ Tell on Friday, we had a great turnout! The students are off to a great start, I cannot wait to see where they go this season. Thank you to those who donated money to help support the purchase of new sound equipment, we raised enough to purchase new microphones and the Mac Mini was purchased off the Amazon Wish List, thank you so much!

This year, we would like to give everyone the opportunity to wear their student’s picture with pride! We will be taking student’s photos in their uniforms at the first football game (08/28) and making buttons. The buttons will be available for pick up at the Showcase on September 13th. Each button is $10. We started a pre-order sheet for them at the Show N’ Tell, if you didn’t get a chance to order one, and would like one, please fill out this form. Please be sure to place your order AND pay by Monday August 25th. We will not make a button that has not been paid for. Button Order Form

We still have 3 slots available for the Fun Services Pipefitters event. This is a great way to earn money for your student’s account. Fun Services is putting on an employee picnic for the Pipefitters and in need of helpers. You must be 15 years old to sign up, if you sign up, please give your t-shirt size. You will earn minimum wage and that money will go into your student’s account. Sign up here: Fun Services Pipefitter Event

We have a restaurant day THIS Wednesday ALL day at Rushbowls at the Hilltop Shopping Center at 136th & Colorado. Mention you are with the Horizon band and we will receive 20% of the day’s proceeds (that is huge!). Please go treat yourself with Rushbowls!

A reminder that our annual Mile of Money fundraiser is NEXT Saturday (08/16) from 10am-12pm. We will be playing at reo locations this year. Lowe’s on 136th & Orchard Pkwy and the Hilltop Shopping Center (King Soopers) on 136th & Colorado. With two locations we are hoping to double the amount fundraised to help go towards a new sound board. Please make sure your student attends.

We will be kicking off our annual online campaign on Monday August 18th. We need your help. We will be asking your student to provide a list of email addresses to share our campaign with. This is our largest fundraiser of the year. Last year, we made a little over $20,000, which is great, but with our growing band, comes a growing budget. We desperately need to increase that number to $30,000-$40,000. Other bands that we compete with at State bring in $60,000 with their online campaign, so please help us find email addresses. Also, if you work for a company that would like to give, there will be a company sponsorship link this year.

Lastly, we would like to quickly remind you that payments were due last Friday. To make a payment, visit the Pay Fees page. The list of payment options are shown once you are logged in.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us. Thank you, and have a great first week of school!

Event Update

Tomorrow is the Show!

Good morning band families!

Tomorrow is the big Show N’ Tell event. We are the most excited we’ve been for a Show N’ Tell because the students have worked hard now for 2 weeks and have accomplished so much. We are going to get the first look at their show!

It will start at 6pm. We will have a quick band parent meeting, talking about some upcoming fundraisers we will be launching, about how you can help out the band this year and some basics about what a marching season looks like. Mr. Dailey is going to talk about some important needs that he has for the band and how you may be able to help us acquire those needs. We will watch the band perform and show us some of the things they have been working on this year, then we will have our hot dog dinner. If you ordered a meal, please make sure that you have cash or Venmo to pay.

Ashly, our treasurer, will be there tomorrow to answer any questions you have about your student’s account.

If you have any questions or need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Update from BAND: Mon August 4, 2025 7:06pm

Hey Hawks! Parents and students- PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THOUGH!

Let’s keep ramping up through the week to get better and better! It will be hot at rehearsal, but this weather won’t last forever and we’ll be stronger for persevering and coming ready to take on rehearsal to the best of our ability.

A few reminders moving into tomorrow to help with the heat:

Hydration:
Drink plenty of water: Start hydrating before, during, and after rehearsals.
Electrolyte drinks: Consider electrolyte beverages like Gatorade or Powerade to replace salts lost through sweating.
Don't wait to be thirsty: If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.
Lukewarm water: Drinking lukewarm water may help you consume more than ice-cold water, which can cause stomach cramps.
There is no excuse to skip a water break when we give them to you!

Clothing:
Light colors: Light-colored clothing reflects sunlight and helps you stay cooler.
Loose-fitting clothing: Allows for better air circulation around your body.
Moisture-wicking fabrics: Consider clothing made from materials that wick away sweat and keep you cool.
Hats and sunglasses: Protect your head and eyes from the sun.

Breaks and Cooling Strategies:
Seek shade: Utilize any available shade during breaks to help your body cool down. (Sections-Maybe bring more canopies)
Cooling towels: Wet a cooling towel and drape it around your neck or head.
Rest: Use breaks to relax, rehydrate, and allow your body to recover.
Fans: Small, portable fans can help circulate air and provide a cooling breeze.

Other Tips:
Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen to all exposed skin to prevent sunburn.
Healthy diet: Eat balanced meals to maintain energy levels and hydration.
Avoid caffeine: This can dehydrate you.

Please like this post to confirm you have read and understand these strategies and the expectation for you to take care of yourself! I will also be thinking of ways to help with the heat, and give us plenty of breaks to stay healthy and ready to rehearse!

Seniors, don’t forget we have banner pictures today! Be in uniform in the auditorium lobby at 1 pm and here are soulful hints:

-Full uniform, including hat
• Photo will be from about the knees-up, so band shoes aren't required.
• I will be taking about 2-3 poses. They can be in a "playing" pose or simply holding their instrument. We're taking a few photos, so they can try different poses. They should think of poses ahead of time. For sports, I often provide some pose ideas. But it's pretty easy to say "here are 5-6 ways to stand with a soccer ball", versus here are trumpet poses, here are clarinet poses, here are bass drum poses, here are flute poses. They might just have to come up with ideas themselves.
• Drummers are welcome to pose with sticks/mallets, if they don't want to wear the drum for the photo. I'Il leave that up to them.
• Smiling or serious, up to them.
• Instruments should be as clean and polished as possible.

Here is our warm up routine! Check around and analyze:
1. Are we moving as one?
2. Are we moving the same?
3. Do we execute every move at a high level?
Remember, “Better every rep!” Try and find people who look really good and try your best to see if you can see you!
